We all live on food and water that give us the energy to survive. If these essential things are contaminated, we may not be able to continue living our lives in a healthy manner. It may be a little more challenging to figure out that the water is impure because it is tasteless, odorless and colorless. Moreover, most metals and chemicals mix with water easily and enter our bodies. For instance, several people in Camp Lejeune suffered because of the contaminated water because the impurities did not get detected. Some of the ways to know if your water is impure are elaborated below:

    Water looks different

Generally, pure water is transparent and if you put it in a glass, you can see through it easily. Many impurities do not change the color of the water and hence, you may not know if it is pure or not. In many cases, if the water looks cloudy or milky, you should avoid drinking it. Instead, you should let it rest for a few minutes. If it clears out in that much time, you can drink it. However, if clouds and foam do not go away in some time, you must get in touch with the right agency to get it tested. Heavy metals, that don’t mix well with water, make the water look like this.

You observe the change in the taste

We are blessed with amazing taste buds and when it comes to pure water, we can easily tell the taste. Most contaminations are tasteless. In various places, impurities may be strange that they can change the taste of water. You will not take much time to figure out if the taste of water is different. If you notice such changes, it is a good idea to stop drinking and get it tested. Your family’s health will be at risk if you keep drinking such water.

    Bad smell in the water

Often, contaminations have no smell and that’s why, you cannot figure out if water is impure. Still, if there is any change in the smell, you should not drink water and contact the related department to get it tested. For instance, if you observe the smell of a rotten egg in water, it may be due to the presence of sulfur.

You must take preventive measures to ensure that you are drinking safe water. Installing a water purifier and boiling water before using it can make it free from contaminations.
